This first volume encompasses the first four editions of After the Battle. The six main features cover the British evacuation from Dunkirk in France in 1940; the airborne landings at Arnhem; D-Day in Normandy; the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944; the air attack to breach the Ruhr dams in 1943 with a spotlight feature on the Nazi city of Nuremburg. The war careers of Colonel James Stewart, Lieutenant-Colonel David Niven, Major Glenn Miller and Lieutenant Audie Murphy are included as well as many other features on items of preserved military equipment; stories about the recovery of Second World War aircraft and marine wreckage and the making of war films.
