Volume six presents an interesting comparison
between two of the major Allied fortresses of WWII Gibraltar held by the
British and Corregidor by American forces. Both heavily fortified, the Rock was
spared the devastating attack loosed on the Philippines stronghold in 1942.
Detailed plans and maps (including the first map to be published of the tunnels
in Gibraltar) together with comparison photographs illustrate these historic
places as they are today. Two other major features on Axis leaders take the
reader back to Czechoslovakia in 1942 for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich
and to Italy in 1943 for the mountain-top rescue of Benito Mussolini. Both
incidents are presented with 'then and now' photographs of the places where the
events actually happened. Additional stories cover the recovery of military
hardware in France, Holland, and Gibraltar.
