SORRY - SOLD OUT
This volume includes a detailed account of the
cross-Channel guns on the British and French coasts which did battle over four
years and remain some of the most interesting World War II sites to be seen. A
story which includes an intriguing contribution from the memoirs of a Japanese
officer is that of Singapore; some of the photographs showing the existence of
Allied POWs in chilling contrast to the life of the city today. The recovery of
a Spitfire from the beach at Calais is described as the preservation tragedy of
the decade. Three differing preservation features are the recovery of a
Norwegain aircraft in Iceland, the re-emergence of a number of armoured vehicles
in Belgium, and the restoration of a Liberty ship in California. Among the other
articles are the making of the film Angels One Five, the execution of
Private Eddie Slovik for desertion, and the wall paintings which live on in
England momentoes of the American Eighth Air Force.
