About

Since After the Battle was founded by Winston Ramsey in 1973, we have been presenting the history of the world's conflicts through 'then and now' comparison photographs. From the Zulu wars, through the First and Second World Wars; to the Falklands conflict, all are researched on the actual battlefield to show how they appeared then and how they appear now.

In October 2021, following the retirement of Winston Ramsey and the sale of the company, After the Battle became an imprint of Pen & Sword Books Ltd and Rob Green, who had worked alongside Winston Ramsey (Founder and Editor-in-Chief), Karel Margry (former Editor) and Jean Paul Pallud (our longest standing author) for the previous 34 years, continues to run the company for the new owners. It was decided to cease publication of our quarterly magazine after issue 195 in May 2022, and instead concentrate on publishing books of the same quality and content as ever.

As well as keeping the original books in print, we are constantly striving to work with new and existing authors to bring our readers many exciting new publications, in both our ‘then and now’ style, and as seen through original wartime photographs, without comparison pictures.

We are very proud of our reputation for producing top quality publications and now, thanks to Pen & Sword Books, we can carry on doing so, safe in the knowledge that After the Battle can continue Bringing History to Life.
