A RECORD OF MILITARY MACKs
IN THE SERVICES AND BEYOND

Bart Vanderveen

Comprehensive, meticulus and surprising
US Military Vehicles Magazine

One of the world's very few makes of trucks which have existed during almost the whole of the 20th century is MACK of which well over a million have been built. Among them were thousands for military service, particularly in the Second World War, either modified commercial models or purpose-designed types for strategic and tactical use, including armoured. Some were manufactured in quantity, others were only experimental.

Bart Vanderveen has compiled a unique pictorial and factual survey of MACK military vehicles of most sorts, from 1911 till today. Well-known are the Model AC Bulldogs of WWI, the EHs, NMs, NOs and others of WWII, but there were countless others, from all manner of 4x2s and 6x4s to imposing 6x6s and even a few 4x4s and 8x8s. An endless range of load carriers, fire and crash trucks, wreckers, refuellers, tank transporters, mobile cranes, dump trucks, buses, prime movers ('Gun Toters'), double-enders, semi-trailers, armoured half-tracks, etc.

Of special interest are the ex-Army MACKs, surplussed and readied for civilian employ, some of them metamorphosed almost beyond recognition, invariably with new cabs and bodywork, diesel engine transplants, chassis conversions and other alterations to suit the operators in countries around the world. Also included is a section of colourful surviving 'old warriors', mostly restored and preserved for posterity.
